This is a collector thread for KubeOne 1.4 major topics and upgrade guidelines.

Packet has been rebranded to Equinix Metal in this release. We also changed Terraform example configs to use Equinix Metal provider. You can still continue using old Packet Terraform configs with your existing clusters, but if you want to migrate Terraform configs as well, you can do the following:

• Make a backup of your existing Terraform state
• Take the new Equinix Metal Terraform configs from examples/terraform directory
• Copy your Terraform state to the new Equinix Metal configs
• Run the following two commands:

  sed -i 's/packet_/metal_/g' terraform.tfstate
  sed -i 's/packethost\/packet/equinix\/metal/g' terraform.tfstate
  

• Run terraform plan and ensure there are no breaking changes that would cause instances to be recreated
• Run terraform apply

Alternative to sed is to use terraform import command, but it requires object IDs, which you would have to extract from the state manually.

AssetConfiguration API has been removed from the v1beta2 API. We are not able to automatically migrate manifests using the AssetConfiguration API because it has multiple use cases:

• EKS-D clusters -- support for EKS-D cluster has been entirely removed in KubeOne 1.4
• Problem with CoreDNS image when using overwriteRegistry -- can be mitigated by using the latest image-loader script or by using the RegistryConfiguration API (registry mirrors)

The addons path is not defaulted to "./addons" any longer to better support embedded addons. To keep the backwards compatibility, migration will set the addons path to "./addons" if it's empty or unset. The user can remove it if it's not needed.
