What happened:
After upgrading from Kubernetes 1.6.4 to 1.7.4 DNS records for StatefulSet PODs were not resolving. Upon further investigation I noted the following in the kubedns container logs
As you can see, it is creating records 3231366438663735.fetchdb.dev.svc.cluster.local. The controlling service is fetchdb, the namespace is dev and the statefulset is fetchdb. Therefore the record should be fetchdb-#.fetchdb.dev.svc.cluster.local.
These DNS entries were present and correct prior to upgrading. To resolve the problem I simply uninstalled the statefulset and re-installed. The DNS records were then correctly created.

How to reproduce it (as minimally and precisely as possible):
I am running CoreOS so my upgrade procedure was to update the master servers first, by simply editing the manifests and setting the hyperkube image tag accordingly.
After the master servers were completed I moved onto the worker nodes.
