Newline command doesn't work in options

In case of multiple supervisors, the newline command causes tons of erros.

example :
...
supervisor={Prof. Dr. Black \ Prof Dr. White},
...

A workaround is, loading the kvoptions-patch before the documentclass definition like this:

\RequirePackage{kvoptions-patch}
\documentclass[twoside]{article}

thanks alot this works. But is there any other way to fix the problem without the kvoptions patch package, so that my document doesn't get messed up?
