At some point we might want to start thinking about what kind of functionality to expose publicly, if we start having a use base for the library as a python package.
Expose some classes in the global __init__.py file of the package. Could be as little as compile_str and the output format.
However this is a long term goal, and at the time of writing might be premature decide what the API should expose since we don't know what users would do with it. I want to make sure that fixing an API doesn't cause us to slow down development of other features.
