request modifies given params table

I'm not sure if this is intentional, but I feel it a bit strange that when you pass params, they get modified in the receiving function, which mean you cannot easily reuse params.

Yeah, not really intentional, just not thought through properly. I hope to find some time soon to fix up a few things and look at the features being requested, so I'll add this to the list.
