Forwarding Debian Bug report 714605:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=714605

Here are the messages:

From: Petter Reinholdtsen pere@hungry.com

Subject: leocad: Please provide support for printing/exporting a part list
Date: Mon, 01 Jul 2013 11:27:22 +0200

Package: leocad
Version: 0.79.2-1
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if leocad could export a part list, ie listing how many
of each part type is needed to create the loaded/drawn model. Then I
could take the part list with me to find all the parts I need to build
the model in question.

Happy hacking
Petter Reinholdtsen

Hi,

Petter submitted this bugreport after a discussion I had with him on IRC.

leocad can of course already export part lists (and even in bricklink xml
format which is something that MLCAD can't do). This is very useful!

So what I meant by "parts list" when I talked with Petter on IRC was a list of
parts in the leocad interface, just as MLCAD offers it (see what is marked with
3 in this screenshot: http://www.hpfsc.de/mlcd_tut/pic01.jpg).

What this "parts list" would allow me to do would be:

  • seeing all parts of my model together with
    • part Nr
    • x/y/z position
    • rotation matrix
    • color
  • selecting parts using that list instead the 3d view
  • rearranging the "order" of parts for creating instructions
  • inserting instruction steps

This would especially be helpful for creating instructions as I can then first
build the model and only have to care about the "order" later.

That being said, it would also be super useful to have a dialog where I can
manually enter the X/Y/Z coordinates and the rotation matrix of a part using
the keyboard.

Thanks!

cheers, josch
