img2sixel doesnt produce any output

Version: libsixel 1.10.3-5 on archlinux x86_64

None of the below does produce any output (or just empty files):
img2sixel imgfile
img2sixel < imgfile
img2sixel -o out.sixel imgfile
img2sixel -o out.sixel < imgfile

adding -v doesnt show any error.

convert imgfile sixel:-
does work though. As does (with a .sixel file generated by convert)
sixel2png imgfile.sixel
