Laggy piece animations in Firefox #7107

I am using a fully updated Firefox (currently v80.0b7) on a fully updated Windows 10 (build 2004) machine with a Corei7 mobile processor. While playing puzzles or reviewing games (with the analysis engine turned off), piece animations are really laggy/jerky.

This problem does not exist on Chromium and its derivatives.

Please let me know if I you need any more information.

Did you report it to Firefox?

@ornicar I just did; is this good enough?

Is there anything I can provide you with to solve this issue?

This is a Firefox issue, not a Lichess one. Your Firefox report got a response asking for more data: https://webcompat.com/issues/56565

For posterity, the privacy.resistFingerprinting flag in about:config was the culprit here. Apparently, setting it to true reduces timer precision. One can either set it to false, OR in case one wants the former flag to be set to true, set a related flag privacy.reduceTimerPrecision to false.

Oh! Very interesting. That might be something we can work around. Opened lichess-org/chessground#150
