The probability that you can have a problem that not any one have is close to 0. So your problem will be because you install an external applet desklet or extention. You need to delete the external installation in your local folder, then cinnamon can start... |
I don't know what extension is installed I only ran the install and followed by the system updates I have not installed any extension or apps yet |
It is bare os |
My apologies, if you have a fresh install i can not help you with the information that you provide. You need to say your distro and the version of the distro, and the repository from your cinnamon installation that you use, the source from the installation at less. And the cinnamon version if you can. |
Quanah it was the std 32 bit download

@rmsarma like @leigh123linux said this appear to be a graphics driver problem. It's just odd this error. Open a terminal, execute the command glxinfo and post the result. @leigh123linux can help you it's an expert in problem with graphics drivers. |

IMO your graphics driver is adequate for cinnamon to run in normal mode. My netbook manages normal mode
|
Is openGL-1.3 normal for Mint?
Perhaps this might explain it https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-session/blob/master/data/hardware-compatibility I'm not sure why 'Intel IGD' works here as it appears to blacklisted as well.
|
@leigh123linux i don't know what do you say... I only see several charaters in all places. The posibility that the driver are moved to the black list and then the kernel can not work with the card... Really maybe @rmsarma understood, but I can not understand well what it's your recomendation to see if the driver it's working or not, and what he need to do for try to fix the problem. I'm just saying this, because maybe to the same thing that happens to me, happend to him. This appears to be for me the screen of "Matrix" 2014... |
Perhaps this will explain it better http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=283747 It basically means cinnamon runs in 2d mode for problem and under-powered cards. |
@leigh123linux yes, this help a lot to understand. And also your last comment was really clear... |
i tried all the distros for mint 17 but seem to have the same issue, didn't have this when it was running ubuntu 12.0.4, any suggestions |

I had this issue with an Oculus Rift DK2 plugged into a DVI port with the main monitor on HDMI (Radeon 7950) Unpluging the Rift solved the issue. I had changed some of the parameters (refresh rate, extending desktop) before the issue occured so probably something to do with that. |
I have this problem with a fresh install of 17.1 32-bit. Cinnamon crashes and enters fallback when booted from Live USB and also after install after having installed updates and rebooted. Part of glxinfo: "direct rendering: Yes from lspci: "00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)" From Xorg.0.log: |
I'm having the same problem. |
A recent update caused some conflicts in config files and crashed cinnamon on reboot. Uninstalling fglrx packages (including config files) and re-installing them again fixed the issue. |
Mine crashes on reboot if the network-manager desklet is not able to connect to a wifi network. I am running Sarah 18 Cinnamon on a DELL XPS 13 9530 skylake i7 with the original wifi card. I was able to reproduce it by forgetting the wifi network and rebooting my laptop. Cinnamon crashes immediately after login and then it falls back into fallback mode until I add a wifi connection from the network connections option. When there is a wifi connection already registered Cinnamon boots up ok, but in some scenarios it fails but it loads fine once it connects to the wifi network and I click the "retry" to start Cinnamon from fallback mode dialog. |
@JosephMcc, can we mark this issue as a bug? |
I'm closing this. The original bug is old and on an old Cinnamon version. The newer posts here aren't even relevant to the original issue. The original issue title probably doesn't help. |
I am using Linux mint Sylvia 18.3 for 64bit with nvidia GPU. Still experiencing this crash. |
I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3 64 bit. After I install updates and upgrade Gimp the next start up I get the message Cinnamon crashed would I like to restart cinnamon. If I choose yes it continues to crash. and it will only run in fallback mode. The only way to get back to cinnamon is to reinstall from my boot usb. |
i am running cinnamon every time i let the pc for a while it gives me this damn error |
