Behavior of super key when at fullscreen #575

I guess most DEs show the panel when we are at fullscreen and press the super key, but Cinnamon doesn't. Currently, it only shows the menu (and with bad positioning, since the panel isn't there). I don't know if this is intentional, but I guess most users expect that, when the super key is pressed, both menu and panel are shown, so we can switch to another application for a short amount of time without having to leave fullscreen.

I tried it with a youtube video (fullscreen) and it still shows only the menu and nothing else. There's a related bug (#733 - panel is visible on some fullscreen videos), maybe Cinnamon "thinks" that the panel is also visible so it only shows the menu.

Popping up panel on the super key is extremely useful on netbooks and small-screen notebook where running applications full-screen is a norm.

Any pointers into the source where one may start working on this bug?

It would also be nice if workspace/window selection view would also show the pannel.

Can you please check if this issue occurs in latest Cinnamon 2.2 (Mint 17) ?

just tested using full screen youtube video in nightly (upcoming Rebecca). Super key just pops the menu, not the panel too.

This issue also occurs with Cinnamon 2.4 (Mint 17.1).

Checked in Cinnamon 3.0.7. The issue is still existing.

[Cinnamon 4.2.3] Now when the super key is pressed, both menu and panel are shown, and you can open another application from the Menu, but still you can't open another application from the panel. When you click on application icon, the panel closes immediately.

The same issue in Cinnamon 4.6.

Maybe then return to the old behavior when the panel was not visible when calling the menu?
It's not pretty, but it doesn't confuse users.
Otherwise it feels like this is a bug.
Or we can simply make the menu not block input, like in Windows.
