I recently switched my primary desktop to cinnamon from gnome3. On logging in with cinnamon, i notice that the network manager menu does not show the interface names next to the on-off buttons. In gnome3, it used to display the interface names(p128p1, p135p1 etc) Also, the same issue is observed in control centre networking dialog, with all the connections only saying "Wired" instead of the interface names/aliases.
See attached screenshots to compare display between cinnamon and gnome3 logins.
How reproducible:
Happens every time i log in via cinnamon.
Steps to Reproduce:
Select Cinnamon as the desktop session type during login
click on the networkmanager icon in the notification area to bring up the quick interface control menu.
See that you see the on/off buttons with no labels!
Expected results:
Menu with on-off buttons displayed and active with labels indicating the interface that is controlled by the relevant button.
Actual results:
Menu with on-off buttons displayed and active for each interface on the system, with no labels indicating the name of the interface.

It appears there is a potential fix for this, posted here. Apparently Gnome3 went through a similar issue, and figured a way to fix it. Maybe someone with more info could review this and see if it could be included in cinnamon.
I'm now having the same issue right after the update this morning. Gimp and many other software is now useless!!!!! These update keep breaking the system. I think when I fix this one, I'm turning OFF the repository since the bug they add are never fixed. I did a bandaid to fix the last one by writing a script to move my mouse to prevent cinnamon from turning off the monitor (regardless of its settings). Is there another place I can get classic Gnome?
