cinnamon 4.4.8; ubuntu 20.04,

**Issue**
purchased new wacom tablet, tried to setup stylus and tablet. preferences --> digital tablet, clicking this does nothing, seems like system is looking, evenutally no response. nemo--> usr/share/applications; at the bottom there is a launcher for wacom tablet. clicking this brings up a settings window and seems to set stylus and tablet options. but seems it is gnome settings, not cinnamon. I tried to re-map the launcher but it will not work.

the tablet seems recognized fine and can be setup through the wacom tablet launcher in applications folder, but not through the preferences menu

**Steps to reproduce**
look in usr/share/applications for the wacom launcher

**Expected behaviour**
these settings should be available in the preferences menu, but the digital tablet launcher there does not activate

**Other information**

**Configuration info, if applicable**

There should be a "Graphics Tablet" entry in the Cinnamon menu.

You should also be able to launch it from a terminal:

cinnamon-settings wacom

Does this not work?

I believe I run into the same problem.
Fresh Linux Mint 20 - plug in my Wacom Intuos S (usb) Tablet.
With the tablet attached I could not open the "Graphics Tablet"-Application from the menu.

The following bug at Wacom seems to be related.
The Wacom developers suggest this may be a problem caused by an outdated LM-setup:
linuxwacom/libwacom#281

Anyway - I adjusted a config file, as suggest at the bug-report - and could open the "Graphics Tablet"-Applications from the menu.
(The problem does only appear with an attached tablet).

Hi;
thank you for the reply.

YES, this works. made changes to /usr/share/libwacom ; changing the line Styli=@intuospt3; to Styli=0x862;0xffffe; in /usr/share/libwacom/intuos-s-p3.tablet (find your correct model number) works, the graphic tablet icon in system settings opens a tablet configuration dialogue.

thank you so much for the reply

@rjv23 Thanks for confirming, that this is indeed the same issue as reported at the libwacom link.
The link refers to an old Fedora issue (2012) which offers some insights and hints to a workaround.

This issue seems to be a regression in LM, at least everything worked fine out-of-the-box in LM Cinnamon 19.3

I suggest changing the name of this bug report. Something like:
Wacom "Graphics Tablet" does not start in LM20 Cinnamon

Does csd-wacom crash as well? (ps -A | grep csd-wacom) or just the settings panel?

I haven't been able to reproduce this issue, even deliberately trying to break tablet files. Nothing has changed with respect to this between mint 19 and 20.

Can I get a trace for this? After crashing, you should be able to get that from the "System Reports" app, "Crash Reports", then "Local Files" (just the tar.gz file is enough) - if someone's done this and I missed it somewhere please point me to it - thanks.

sorry, can't be much help here regarding trace, etc. re csd-wacom crashing, also not sure. but I can mention again the situation before file edit and after. Before edit, after connecting the tablet would function, the configuration icon in the settings panel would not open; it tried to initialize but crashed. selecting the wacom tablet icon in usr/share/applications did open a configuration window, but adjusting these settings did not seem to work for me. After editing the file, the graphics tablet icon in settings opens and I can configure the tablet normally. sorry I missed your first reply about testing in terminal, it was added in my message and not a separate comment so did not get a notification. Thank you for your replies and efforts, sorry can not be much more help

@mtwebster
The bug only occurs, when the wacom tablet is attached to the computer.
I can reproduce this issue on two computers (Lenovo T460 and Lenovo W520).
I also tried to manually build the latest version of the wacom stack on my T460 which didn't help.

ps -A | grep csd-wacom does not print anything, after the crash

System reports does show two crashes (both for csd-wacom).
I will attach both crash reports. (local files)
crash1.tar.gz
crash2.tar.gz

The following fixed the issue for me: In /usr/share/libwacom/intuos-s-p3.tablet:
replace
Styli=@intuospt3;
by
Styli=0x862;0xffffe;

Please let me know, if I can provide anything else.

Fix also works for Wacom Intuos BT M (/usr/share/libwacom/intuos-m-p3-wl.tablet) . Thanks!
