I have uninstalled Brasero long ago, because it produced nothing but coasters with my external (USB) burner. I use K3B and it works fine.
Now, what does Nemo need Brasero for?

It doesn't depend on Brasero.

So it's just me not understanding Synaptic. When Nemo got installed Synaptic said "this update triggers additional changes". I didn't see i could opt out. Now brasero shows up under "recommends". Mh. Maybe next time.

It's possible one of the packages needed or recommended by nemo recommended it. In any case, you should be able to remove brasero and keep nemo installed.

From the command line you can tell apt-get to not install recommends with the following option: --no-install-recommends
