[In http://community.linuxmint.com/idea/view/5563 I have been advised to post it here too:]

Apparently Nemo2.4.5 is very intelligent when sorting files/folders alphabetically - and does ignore signs like "-" or "_" at the beginning of filenames.

Nemos alphabetical ordering of files:
a
b
_c
d

Still, the reason for this behaviour is not clear to me and I don't find it useful, especially beeing a former Windows user and having a large amount of files/folders in my old structure, now unable to locate my data without scrolling/searching; I would prefer this order:
_c
a
b
d

Can we have that at least optionally?

It is necessary that sorting was like as in Windows

I found another very strange order of folders:
strangealphabeticalorder
I don't know if this is important: this folder is on a mounted networt-attached-storage server...
I admit that my folder names are not really consistent ;) Still the order looks very strange, doesn't it?

It also sorts strangely when viewing a list of names.

It appears nemo ignores any punctuation/spaces and just sorts alphanumeric
I also have a set of folders named by the Dewey Decimal System and they also sort out of order, but I don't have a screenshot handy.
Names usually end up nearby but with DDC it's very disruptive as the folders do not sort into logical order.

This is related to #578 and #205.

Ditto on that issue. It's nice and understandable to have some Windows-like behaviour especially if you just switched to Linux, but it is annoying if you want to do something specific and Nemo just does something unexpected and non-standard.

Ignoring special characters AND letter-case is not what one would expect, and it doesn't really make anything clearer in my opinion. At the very least, it would be nice to have a checkbox that says "Sort in Linux-manner" or "Ignore special chars when sorting" or something.

Closing as there is a feature request for this #578.
