this is part observation, part guess:

observations:

  • some months ago: login is possible at all devices but one - after changing the hostname, login is possible. Changing back to old name, even partitioning and formatting - no login (guess at that time: remains in the ad that block this certain hostname).
  • report from linuxmuster forum user: after changing name of computer on that domain join was done, problems with login on other computers
  • our situation: since about one week suddenly no linux domain login possible on ALL computers (image worked before on all computers but the one mentioned above) - we checked syncing twice, created new image after purging all packages, etc.
  • what worked: leaving domain, creating/syncing a new (virtuel) computer, syncing, joining domain, creating image. THIS image works again

guess: there seems to be some remains in the ad that blocks a domain logon, when this original computers name is changed.

this should be understood and either be fixed or somehow documented that the name of a computer that joins a domain, should never be changed (though so far it is a guess only).

thanks for reporting. Unfortunately, I am too busy to look into this myself in the foreseeable future.
