What Happened?

Text editing experience for Indic scripts could use a lot of improvement. Well, I've only tried with Devanagari really, but I expect a similar story with others, because in general they're handled similarly.

Specifically, deleting (with backspace) the characters often deletes the whole combined character altogether, instead of only the last input.

Some examples:

  • ता -- pressing backspace after it removes the whole combined character, instead of only the ा part
  • Same for ते ति तु तो तै ती तू तौ
  • Same for तं

In all the cases above, I expect to get त after pressing backspace once.

This makes editing quite a miserable experience.

Reproduce the Bug

  1. Type (or probably paste) ता
  2. Press backspace

Expected Behavior

ा is removed, leaving only त
