Original report by Nathan 1852 (Bitbucket: Nathan1852, GitHub: Nathan1852).

As discussed in irc, it would be very nice/usefull to add support for color truetype fonts.

Example font:

Example freetype implementation:

Is there an application that can open thins font? Windows' 7 font viewer refused to recognize this font.

FontForge too.
There are bitmap fonts, why not use those to store some emoji/symbols/icons?

Apple's macOS font manager / viewer doesn't seem to recognize it either.

Since the gnome font viewer doesn't support it either, I'm not sure how much use coloured truetype fonts get. I wouldn't mind supporting it if/when they become popular, but at the moment it seems like we'd be adding it for a single user.

Feel free to reopen when they are more common.

Alternatively, since it does look kind of cool, patches are always welcome.
