Search folders count bubbles should reflect only unread items, not total items

If you create a search folder, the little bubble on the right of the folder name will represent the total amount of search results, which I don't actually care about... instead, it should represent the amount of unread items within those search results, to be consistent with the rest of the interface (the unread counts for normal folders and feeds).

I know what you mean. Still I think it is not worth implementing as the opposite use case can be argued the same way. Also with most users probably only using the unread and flagged search folder it doesn't matter.

Actually older versions had it that way and I found it redundant information because the top level folder has the same information as the unread search folder.

The problem with the current approach is that it is visual pollution. The number never goes away. I don't need to know how many items matched a search term at any given time, I need to know what requires my attention "right now". Once the items in there are marked as read, then I don't care about them anymore, and thus want the notification/attention-grabbing counter to go away.

Personally, I don't use the "unread" global search folder because it is meaningless when you have thousands of unread items globally; I need to focus on specific categories at different times of the year. The search items would help draw my attention to more urgent items "cross-feed" - if the count never goes down, then I know I will never rely on that count...

And why would one want to know the total amount of search results (including past read items) anyway? I don't understand how that metric is useful to anyone. You either get search results or you don't, but the exact amount between zero and a thousand is of no concern to anybody (I hope :)

You have some points. I still need to do some testing of my behaviour while using Liferea to verify.

The one use case of the total amount is to know if a search folder matches something. So low values matter, but not much.
