One thing to consider:

Swapping the preview image is using linked anchors, so when you click a sweater in the gallery it should feel as close to instant as it can to "load" the preview. I put lazy loading on there initially but it created a flash of blank state before it loaded.

It might be better to control what's happening on first paint and then what loads later, but not dependent on viewport. I don't know!!
