To prepare the roms you have to use the nesromtool but I could not find the original sources for them.
Do you know where this program originally came from?

I dunno where you got it without sources, sources are available through original dropbox link. Note that while this repo is perfectly legal, nesromtool, while also legal, falls enough into grey area that I don't want to bother adding it, or any other rom management functionality.
