TSC Digest (June 2021)
This is the second official communication from the TSC. Previous communications include
This month, the TSC supported community alignment, project governance, and improved documentation. See the TSC meeting notes for more details.
Community alignment
One of the principal motivations behind the TSC is engaging with the community toward aligning on design and development best practices. This month, the TSC shepherded 5 community-oriented proposals.
Technical: Toward Edge-Cloud Gateways
The Magma project adopted the intent to containerize AGW components and run them as Kubernetes-managed applications. The end goal is
Technical: Cloud Platform Golang Resolution
As the Magma cloud platform grows, both Orc8r specifically and Orc8r-adjacent cloud offerings, the Magma project aligned on Golang as the de facto language for cloud applications.
Process: AGW Reference Designs
The Magma project provides open-source software targeting commodity hardware. However, in production deployments, clear hardware specifications and documentation of expectations allows faster time-to-deployment and cleaner, more scalable operations.
To this end, the Magma project defined a process for introducing, evaluating, and blessing reference hardware for the AGW.
Process: CI Oncall
Monitoring CI health is now supported by an official oncall rotation. The current oncall monitors the
#ci
channel, and can institute a merge freeze when CI becomes sufficiently unhealthy.Process: Better Commit Messages
Commit messages (i.e. PR titles) to follow a standard syntax in their prefix, such as
fix(agw):
orfeat(orc8r):
. This will help clarify PR purpose, as well as allow automatic release notes and analytics gathering.Governance
TAC
The Technical Advisory Committee is a committee appointed by the TSC to drive the longer-term technical vision of the project.
This month we welcome Professor Jen Rexford of Princeton University as the 5th member of the TAC!
We also congratulate Amar Padmanabhan on his appointment as TAC chair 🥳
TSC
Moved TSC sync to biweekly (twice-monthly) sync. Please join us every other Monday, all are welcome 🌟
Documentation
Notable additions to the Magma documentation include
.pcap
files demonstrating common call flows for Magma's external interfaces (#thanks @uri200 for the addition!)Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
