Yesterday I tried the plugin to test it on my machine: Ubuntu 14.04 64 bits.
I added a Telegram account and got confused becuase Pidgin asks for a "username" (at least in Catalan) so I typed my Telegram nickname (without the @) and it crashed. While Telegram account was active I could use Pidgin because crashed on start.

-> I unactivated and edited the account
-> typed my number
Worked.

Hi, I've added proper error handling for the login process, that should fix it.
