Hey, I hope it is okay to add such things here. If not, my humble apologies :)
While creating maps where I positioned extremely similar but not identical background tiles at specific places it would have been useful if there was an option to overlay the name or some other identifier of the source image of a tile above it in the tile selection window and/or the map window, so I wouldn't need to strain my eyes as much making sure I selected the correct images.
Maybe I'll see about contributing this myself if I got the time in a few days and I succeed in getting the build environment set up.
Of course I have no idea how useful this would be for other people or how widespread use cases are where this is relevant. Any opinions?

Either here or on the Tiled forum are the places to add such things, depending on your preference, so it's fine!

You're of course very welcome to look into implementing it. Also feel free to ask questions related to build environment or where to get started on this change.

Feature request: Add option to show image name on tiles
Add option to show image name on tiles
Aug 25, 2015
I realized this information is now quite readily available in the Properties view after either selecting the tile in the tileset view, or right-clicking the tile in the map view (which also selects the tile in the tileset view).
The only exception to that are tile objects, because in that case the Properties view displays the properties of that object rather than its tile. Maybe the object properties should include an entry for the tile of the object for tile objects, and could display the image name there.
