Given that we currently have no support for alternative windowing systems (i.e. wayland), I think that we should enable the x11 feature by default on all linux compiles. Is there any specific technical limitation that would prevent this?

Mmm not at all, having wayland support should be easy, rust-skia supports it, although it would need new pre-binaries as there isn't any combo with svg support
