This dragon mesh comes from the Stanford 3D scanning repository.
Use pip to install dependencies:
pip install -r requirements.txt
To produce a new mesh of file.off with triangles of diameter about 1/N use:
python midnormal.py N file.off
By default this writes the resulting mesh to output.off but another path can be specified by using the -o flag. It also displays some angle statistics like the histograms shown above.
This is based off of Joel Hass's implementation of their algorithm. However this implementation uses a different strategy to enumerate the tetrahedra of the Goldberg triangulation of the unit cube. This allows it to skip the vast majority of tetrahedra since in each column it can jump straight up to the next tetrahedra that meets the mesh. This makes the running time of this algorithm ~linear in size of the output (which is like N^2), instead of cubic in N.
