Why did God create humanity?

Did God create humanity just because he could? Because he wanted a pet? Or for a bigger purpose?

I would be mindful of the origin of the LDS - a conman on the run from the law convinces the ignorant he was spoken to by “Maroni” and they follow him and give him their money and practice polygamy all while this illiterate liar continues his farce...
