People have said that money is the root of all evil. Or perhaps in more nuanced terms, the love of money is the root of all evil. Or in more general terms, greed is the root of all evil.

There may be something even more fundamental at play.

Root of all evil? Selfishness, Pride. It started in the garden, we wanted more, we wanted what we didn't have, we wanted to be what we wanted to be and not submit to what God wanted us to be. We do this today, I do this today. Money, greed, is just a symptom of the root issue of my own selfishness. I want what I want and I don't care about what anyone else wants.
