Automatic screen resizing for KVM guests no longer works #338
Comments
Isn't it a little weird for spice-vdagent to suddenly require compliance from every window manager to work properly, when previously, automatic resize used to work completely without regard as to what desktop environment was running? I tried to raise that question with the devs here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1290586 But, that bug was just closed due to Fedora 24 EOL, so I'm not sure if it'll get a response. |
Earlier in that ticket, I was pointed at this git commit in Gnome, apparently to support the new screen size property: https://git.gnome.org/browse/mutter/commit/?id=957513242c26be458be7a101b83180e3f59f6a44 Just in case that helps to replicate that functionality in Mate. |
Problem still exists in Linux Mint Mate 19. Running it inside qemu using spice-vdagent and QXL driver doesn't allow to resize the spice windows. However It works fine with Cinnamon but not Mate. |
FWIW, I've been chasing this issue as well, we have the same issue in Plasma. :/ |
Still seeing it with 19.1 Mate. |

just seen this with debian buster guest (mate 1.20.4) wow that was a waste of half a day! |
Gah, why! |
The driver now requires the window manager handles the resize itself, by setting a property that the WM is expected to check and then resize the display to the suggested size.
An explanation of how it works is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1670713/comments/1
