Expected behaviour

Don't crash

Actual behaviour

When I click "logout" or "switch user", I get anomalous behavior, like going back to the login screen after entering the ID, or jumping to the screen saver unexpectedly. A crash file is created and, some time later I am offered the opportunity to report it. And so I am . . .

CORRECTION: The text just above, the recipe for producing the crash, is wrong. See next message.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Login and then log out or switch user. Happens every time.

Something like this??? Ya want me to open a new one? Somewhere else?

This is a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04.2 on a Raspberry Pi 4. I first loaded Ubuntu and then used Tasksel to load MATE. I cannot think of anything unusual in the setup, except . . . to get the display working properly, I placed these settings in config.txt:

   # Place "config.txt" changes (dtparam, dtoverlay, disable_overscan, etc.) in
   # this file. Please refer to the README file for a description of the various
   # configuration files on the boot partition.
   dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host
   dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d
   disable_overscan=1

I mention this because "dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d" is associated with some fiddly behavior with other display software. Maybe it plays in the same playground as Marco.

I am happy to provide any/all information. This is important to us.

IMPORTANT CORRECTION:

The recipe for producing the Marco crash is wrong, sortof. The described behavior is indeed there but the crash file at the end is Xorg, not Marco. Obviously, I get Marco crash files too but it seems that the recipe for producing them is different. I will see if I can figure that out.

You can imagine how I got confused.
