Expected behaviour

This action closes the terminal and tells the foreground processes to hang up, overriding the terminal line setting "hang up on close". That causes most applications to tell all dependent background processes to hang up and to exit; this default behaviour can be disabled and/or altered in various ways.

Actual behaviour

This action closes the terminal and any subprocesses that you opened from the terminal.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Tell MATE Terminal Manual to display the section Opening and Closing Terminals!
