It will need to be modified to work on modern macOS and Apple silicon. The battery data it collects has changed location in the output of system_profiler and the CPU information is returned in a different format.

Maybe this is the same problem I was having with other plugins. Had lots of trouble using xbar. xbar itself worked fine tho...

Quite possible. Plugin problems are best addressed to the plugin author in the sister repo: https://github.com/matryer/xbar-plugins

I've reported it there, see: matryer/xbar-plugins#1176 but be aware it has been broken since 2019.
