Paramount+ not accessing 4k resolution or Atmos tracks, seems to be getting worse #313
Comments
I can confirm, no content in 4K. |
Still not 4k, they have a plan for having 4k in future ? |
Yes, this is quite disappointing. |
This seems like it could be related to this issue as well #353 assuming the handling of audio tracks and subtitle tracks would be a similar functionality, but I could be mistaken. |
@matthuisman Bypassing the playback quality selection doesn't work, there are no other resolutions within the video OSD options. |
Greatly appreciate all you do and have donated money, could not use Disney Plus otherwise (as their native interface is incredibly annoying) and that has worked well. However, here's what has been going on with Paramount+, it was fine when I started using that a few months ago on my NVidia Shield:
Some, but not all movies with 4k resolution and Atmos audio, are not able to play in their full quality. I've been using PAW Patrol: The Movie as a test for this. Originally it played in 4K with HDR and Atmos, but later it was only playing in 1080 with 5.1 audio with no way to manually select the higher quality. At the same time the movie Sonic 2 was still able to play in 4K with Atmos.
More recently, PAW Patrol now also only plays with 2-channel audio and there are no other audio tracks selectable. Originally there were separate 2-channel, 5.1 and Atmos tracks available but those are gone now. A brand-new movie "Smile" also only plays in 2-channel sound and 1080 video when it is available in 4K and Atmos.
What is going on? I mainly use my NVidia Shield but also have a Fire Stick as backup and the problem has been on both devices. Since most services have the lower to higher video and audio levels selectable, I don't know why Paramount is now only having these limitations and only on some titles.
