Google Pixel 7a 5GI tested both Chrome 125.0.6422 stable, Firefox stable 126.0.1, Firefox Nightly (Fenix) 129.0a1 and Brave 1.66.120 on 2024-06-13. Redid all browsers as it seemed inconsistent with earlier runs on 2024-06-14. Power consumptionHere's the batterystats output in Battery Historian for Chrome: And for Firefox: And for Firefox nightly: This suggests that Firefox is worse on power consumption than Chrome (Chromium), taking 1.18% battery against Chrome's 0.58% and Braves .62%. That's ~103% worse. I also tried Nightly to see if there might have been a fix upstream for Android or Pixels or even specifically the chip of Pixel 7a but with 1.23% battery usage of nightly it suggests being as well or worse than the stable/release version which in general is logical as dev builds often are a bit less optimized. SpeedometerSurprisingly, Brave even exceeds Chrome while Brave has quite some adblocking etc build in, in Speedometer 3 benchmarks! And then Chrome is speedier than Firefox but a bit faster is the nightly build. As my daily driver is Brave this even more shows how great and speedy Brave is. Chrome: Firefox: And for Firefox nightly: And for Brave: For others maybe a tip. Try the benchmark multiple times if possible, not just iterations but the test. Some things like heat/temperature as well as battery level (even with battery saver off) can impact the performance and skew the data. I have found this myself which is why I had to redo the test. |

Oneplus 11Runs Snapdragon 8 gen 2 last year flagship soc. Benchmark and Power consumption BraveBrave is around 10% faster and 28% more efficient than Firefox. Other than smoother scrolling with less stutters on Brave no other changes in browsing experience on this device. I wonder if Firefox for android uses or plans to use this api https://blog.chromium.org/2023/08/smoothing-out-scrolling-experience-in.html https://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/MotionEvent#getEventTimeNanos() Firefox |

Share your power consumption results here!
For organization's sake (and to make finding results easy), title your post with your device type. Feel free to be as detailed (or not) as you like after that. Battery Historian and/or Speedometer screenshots are welcome!
See my first comment for an example of a good report.
