I don't own a PS3 GH5 controller and won't be inclined to buy one for this project. Not sure what's required to get that working.

I own the PS3 GH5 controllers (in fact Band Hero controllers, but they are the same). I'd be very interested in getting this working. I can provide info and test if that helps.

I can try to modify the code myself but I would appreciate some guidance on what is needed and where to start.

For a start, how can I identify the right HID input device in the drop-down? I could find it in the Device Manager just by checking the VID and PID, it appears as "USB Input Device"

For reference, in case others find the same issue. I got it working in Win10 x64 using:

  • Band Hero PS3 drum kit (using included wireless USB dongle).
  • MusicLab Garage Drummer (freeware). Like ps360prodrummer, it converts signals from GH peripheral into MIDI. Includes a virtual MIDI driver (no need for LoopBe1).
  • VSTHost (Freeware, necessary to load Garage Drummer as VST plugin)
  • ASIO4ALL driver for reduced latency.
  • MT Power Drum Kit 2 (you need to get an activation code, but it's free and no registration needed). Loaded as an VST plugin in VSTHost, transforms the MIDI signals into actual drum sounds.

@morallo I'm glad you got it working with MusicLab Garage Drummer.

Can you clarify what you mean by saying GH5 and Band Hero controllers are the same? They look different and the GH ones have higher up cymbals, as far as I am aware?

@mcclymont I am still available to tinker with ps360prodrummer if you want to add compatibility, just with a little less motivation. Just let me know where to start looking.

For reference:

Guitar Hero World Tour drums:
Guitar Hero World Tour drums

Band Hero/Guitar Hero 5 drums:
Guitar Hero 5/Band Hero drums

Rock Band standard drums:
RB drums

Rock Band Pro drums:
RB3 pro drums

@morallo Thanks for clarifying. I think I was confused between Rock Band and Band Hero.

The choices in the dropdown menu are named exactly as they are in Device Manager. So just try running the program and choosing "USB Input Device" and click Connect. If there are multiple devices called that, then try all of them. After a few seconds, it should say "Drums found" or something like that. If you can get the program to connect to your controller, that's the first step. If we're lucky, it might not make a difference for Xbox vs PS3
