I'm running MediaWiki 1.22.4.
I installed the MW Calendar Extension v3.8.4 (9/15/2009) and it is working
wonderfully.

Here is the calendar code that I used.
<calendar name="Paul's Calendar" useconfigpage editdefault usetemplates
enablerepeatevents />
ISSUE:
The calendar displays a gt symbol (>) at the begining of the calendar
and ends with a lt (symbol) (<) and above the Weekdays text is a row of
alternating symbols (<> <> <> <> <> <> <>).
I have a screen snapshot of my calendar (please see attachment) showing these
characters.
I tried modifying Calendar.php, calendar_template.html, default.css
to determine the problem but I can't seem to figure it out.
Do you have any idea why these extra characters are showing up?
