Can you please document some benchmarks addressing performance and what to / what NOT to do advices?

Not yet, but if you add a benchmark suite then you'll get a lot of buzz.

The question is, should we add this package like everywhere, or should we just delete/forget the old SQL-like thinking? :)

Ultimately, I think it's best if a third party performs these benchmarks to avoid any conflicts of interest. The Kadira guys are discussing this over here.
