I was told to create this bug via launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1720730?comments=all).

BEHAVIOR
The default Ubuntu experience is that it has an "auto-hide" feature, but what they call auto-hide isn't true auto-hide: it shows the dash when no other windows are covering it.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
For there to be an auto-hide feature that hides the dash until the mouse hovers over the edge where it's located.

I'm not qualified to say this, but running this gsettings command fixed that for me on Manjaro gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock intellihide false

That should make the auto-hide function work like you expect it to (I think you can also find the setting in the dconf settings manager)
