[regression] [worked-in:16.5 Preview 1?]
Both sides of the navigation bar are blank, though when I click on them they "drop down" with several empty lines. This is with python code.
I believe this was working fairly recently, though it's possible I'm mistaken.
Initially I was working with an existing code base without a VS project or solution. Partly because of this problem, I created a solution (python application) in the existing directory. It did not initially include any of the files in that directory, but by add (sub)directories and files to the solution I got everything back.
I have also renamed one of the intermediate directories from lower to upper case. When I click on properties for one of the files in the solution it shows a full path that uses the lower case directory still. But the problem I'm reporting here preceded that change.
There are no errors or messages I can see; one of the files has a green circle with a check at the bottom with the "No issues found". I tried Build | Run code analysis of solution.
When I first load the project the Visual Studio python background analyzer uses a lot of CPU

I have detected that for the last 35 days, this issue didn't have much product team activity and a very small amount of new votes or comments. Based on this, its severity, and affected area, it’s my experience that this issue is very unlikely to be fixed.

Hello. Are you still experiencing issues with 16.5.2 or 16.6 Preview 2? Thanks!
Luminita Cristiana Totu on 10/8/2020, 03:28 AM:
I have Visual Studio 16.7.5
The navigation bar for python code is empty. ( Should have had the classes and methods for easy in-file code navigation )
I have for now a single python file with multiple classes.
I tried opening the file alone, open folder, and create project. The navigation bar remains empty.

I am still seeing it in VS 2019 16.6.0 Preview 4
It's kind of weird; I think I remember this working in the past.
In the solution properties page | Common Properties | Code Analysis Settings it says "There are currently no analyzable projects loaded." Not sure if the code analysis referred to here is the same as the code analysis that populating the navigation bars requires.
When I created the project it created a .py file with the same name; that file is empty. My actual code is in a different file which is also in the project. When I view that file I get nothing in the nav bars.

I also have this issue (VS2019 community). "Navigation bar" is always empty for python files, despite being an option under Options > Text Editor > Python > General.
It works OK for C++ and JavaScript.

I have the same behavior that just started in
Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2019 Preview Version 16.7.0 Preview 6.0.
I was working fine up to 10 minutes ago (my functions were visible in the dropdown list) and suddenly (without even closing visual studio), the dropdowns are empty.
I have closed Visual Studio and re-opened it, but the problem is still there for all my python files.
-----------------
Additional info 1: it happened about the same time has my function comments changed from green to orange at the bottom on the file I was editing. Now all my function comments are orange!
Additional info 2: This is related to the visual studio project, because if I create another visual studio project in the same solution, the dropdowns of the new project are working fine.
