Multimonitor Alt+Tab #12627
Comments
I think this should be the enhancement of Windows 10/11 (The operating system), not for PT, a utility. You can file this at the Feedback Hub |
I think so too, and am waiting for this since Win8, with Windows 11 still using archaic method. I'll add to Feedback Hub - but honestly we might need to wait for Windows 12, to get this implemented (and it's still an IF). That is why I think PT would be best to add this functionality (same as VistaSwitcher did). |
Thank you for the suggestion @sasopot! I agree this's probably better directed at Feedback Hub, but we're open to exploring potential options with this as we prioritize our backlog of enhancements. For now we'll log this under our ideas milestone until our general stability efforts conclude. |
After some thought, we should follow suit with other Feedback Hub related issues in our repo and close this. PowerToys likely isn't the best place to develop this functionality for now. We appreciate you submitting the request though, and we'll follow up among our teams internally to potentially revisit this idea in the future. |
Thanks @dedavis6797, hopefully this will land on some eager developers ears in Feedback Hub, I'll request the functionality there. |
Description of the new feature / enhancement
This might be raised as a Feature Request, but I did not find it.
Basically what VistaSwitcher did (I'm still using it, but it's flimsy and have to exclude some Win10 windows, as they keep showing up).
The idea behind it, is that you can enable to show Alt+Tab only on monitor where your cursor is. Additionally you can set it, to show only Windows that are on that monitor. This makes multimonitor work that much faster and enjoyable - I'm not sure how people even use 2 or 3 monitors without this (currently you need VistaSwitcher), and all Windows should have this by default (with options to disable/customize).
Alt+tilde would show only Windows of the same app - eg if you had multiple Word documents, you could cycle through those only (again only on monitor where your cursor is).
Please note that I'm aware of Win+Tab, which is very similar, but you cannot easily select window you require, by multiple presses of Tab key - you either need to click on a Window, or select with array of Arrow Keys, to get to appropriate window).
Scenario when this would be used?
Every time when you have multiple monitors attached and you use Alt+Tab extensively.
Supporting information
There was VistaSwitcher app, which still works, but not ideal in Win10 - especially now with Edge Browser (as all tabs are displayed). Needs enabling:
