FancyZones

Steps to reproduce

  1. Turn on "Move newly created windows to their last known zone" setting (I am attaching a full snap of my FancyZones below).
  2. Have two or more Windows desktops.
  3. Use or create a layout on the first desktop. Open any program here.
  4. Use a separate layout on the second desktop.
  5. Start a separate program (Firefox, in my case) on the second desktop and assign it to a zone.
  6. Open a new tab and pull it out, creating a second (Firefox) program window. Move this new program window out of the zone and onto a neutral, non-zoned area.
  7. Navigate to the first desktop, then navigate to the second desktop (I used Ctrl + Win + Left/Right as well as Alt + Tab to focus on the program in desktop 1).

✔️ Expected Behavior

The two Firefox program windows on the second desktop should remain where they were, namely:

  • 1 window in its zone
  • 1 window in its own hand-placed location.

(I can see two Firefox windows side by side)

❌ Actual Behavior

The second program window on the second desktop was moved to the zone of the first program window.

(I can only see one Firefox window, as they are placed in the same zone and perfectly overlap)

These are all the settings for FancyZones (if omitted, it means turned off)

  • Enable FancyZones
  • Hold Shift key to activate zones while dragging
  • Use a non-primary mouse button to toggle zone activation
  • Activate the smallest zone by area
  • Windows default
  • Show zone number
  • Keep windows in their zones when the screen resolution changes
  • During zone layout changes, windows assigned to a zone will match new size/positions
  • Move newly created windows to their last known zone
  • Make dragged window transparent
