Describe the solution or feature you'd like

As a user that opens a folder with SQL scripts in the Explorer, I want my scripts and new files to connect to a default connection instead of having to use 3 clicks to connect each time.

Additional context

Ideally, this takes the form of a connection context I can specify for my opened workspace, but a simple setting to specify a default connection, or using the last connected connection, would work as well.

Please, do NOT leave this feature without possibility to not use it. I am programmer, I often works on tens of scripts in CODE mode, not RUN mode, and necessity to connect every time is extremely counter-productive.

This issue is so annoying. Sometimes I need to refer to different SQL files just to check the text in the files (stored procedures etc.) and the connection prompt comes up with each click on a file! If a connection per workspace is too much to implement, at least there should be an option to work in disconnected mode, or simply prompt only when the run button to execute SQL is clicked. (I think that Vscode with SQL plugin actually does this)

I recently moved to Azure Data Studio from SSMS. Primarily because of the fact that SSMS is painfully slow to use on Azure databases, and secondly for the GIT integration.

I'm using Azure Active Directory - Universal with MFA support.

It's quite a big issue that i'm forced to constantly reconnect my queries, and annoying that you cannot see in any way that the connection has dropped.

The same goes for the Connection List. Its suddenly disconnected and I have to restart Data Studio or Disconnect/Reconnect every time.

I think this is ruining this otherwise quite good admin tool.

Please do something about it, since I'm currently facing two alternatives that are both annoying to work with...

Just this past month I've switched over to ADS from SSMS; it's a bit of a change, but I love the faster intellisense.

I too would like this feature, but let me suggest the following configuration choices:

  1. Do not automatically connect to any server (default)
  2. Automatically connect to a default server I specify
  3. Automatically connect to the last server I connected to

Also - 2019? Can someone get going on this?!??

Thanks.

It also would be very helpful if we had keyboard accelerator for the Connect button, As having to manually click it every time is annoying. That's in both places by the way.

It would also be nice to have a keyboard shortcut to launch the Connection form in the first place.

I tried my best to switch to ADS from SSMS but once I encountered this issue I stopped and went back to SSMS.
This issue was brought up in 2019... and it's 2024??? Come on guys, it's time to implement it!
