I added <link rel="icon" href="favicon.png"> yet it didn't render in the Live Preview.

The embedded browser doesn't support displaying favicons yet, but the external browser should correctly do so.

Are you talking about rendering in the embedded browser or external browser?

Yup, that's expected. I'll add this to the feature backlog.
