I had seen this before many times, but only managed to repro now:

Open a text file (pinned)
Open settings (pinned)
Open the file again
Hide the sidebar
Open settings again

You'll notice a hang (300ms on my fast machine) and a quick flash of a lot of text rendered in the editor:
