There is no "Toggle Shared Process" in the Help section of my VSCode However I can do
|
Sorry its not Help -> Toggle Shared Process. It is View -> Command Pallette... -> Toggle Shared Process. Looks like shared process is not running. Can you please restart VS Code if not restart the system and try? |
This seems to be the same as
I already restarted VSCode and my computer several times, since this bug has been there for days (or weeks, I can't tell) and I turn off my PC every night before sleep. Also note that it happens on 2 different PCs, both running Ubuntu 18.04. I have 2 colleagues, one using MacOS and the other using Windows, and none of them have the bug that I have on my 2 Ubuntu PCs. |
@bpasero It seems the user has issues with the shared process looks like it is not started. Any idea how this can diagnosed? |
@sandy081 I don't. Code pointer is here:
|
@PierreTurnbull Can you please try starting vscode on a different user data directory? You can do this by launching VS Code from Command line with |
@sandy081 I tried this and the extension tab works again. Should I remove the content of the default user data directory ? |
I suspect there is some issue in your user data directory so that shared process socket is not getting created. I am not an expert here and will wait @joaomoreno to comment on this. Unfortunately he is on vacation. Removing entire user data directory will loose your user data like settings and keybindings. So be careful. |
Ok, I'll wait for your colleague. Thanks for the answers. 🐱 |
I'm also face it, no "Toggle Shared Process", It works fine when I start from terminal with sample "code" instead of dock bar. I'm also ubuntu 18.04. |
I fixed it |
I don't have
|
u can install vscode use this method:
|
For now I prefer to wait an answer from @joaomoreno which may solve my problem without reinstalling, because I've got some user data I'd prefer not to lose, such as extensions or workspace state. But if all else fail I will try reinstalling this way, thanks. |
I don't know what the issue is in creating the socket file. Please run with
@sandy081 This isn't a sign that the socket file wasn't created, but rather that the shared process doesn't exist at all. |
I launched vscode with
Also, with
|
Got it, can you backup your user data dir and start Code (not from cli)?
|
Done. The bug is still there. Note that some of my extensions are still there, whereas I thought I would lose all my extensions... |
Extensions live in another folder. Interesting, you seem to have an environment sourcing issue. Can you compare the output of the following steps, when running from CLI and otherwise?
|
What is your default |
zsh |
What is the result of |
"/usr/bin/zsh" |
Let's do this:
Then, |
|
Can you show me your .zshrc? |
|
Does it work if you comment out the |
Yes it works! Thanks for your time 💪 |
You're welcome. It's always hard to find out why people's rc scripts don't complete. |
Steps to Reproduce:
Note that extensions work. What doesn't work is the extensions tab. I cannot install/uninstall/search for extensions but extensions I had installed previously do work.
Example: Gitlens works: it displays informations of the last commit affecting the current line:
I tried installing an extension with the appropriate command (
ext install hoovercj.vscode-power-mode
) but it also doesn't work:Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?:
