Can I close "Welcome page" when I chose a file from my lateral files list?

Everytime I sit on my PCI open VSCode and I have "Welcome Page" in front of me, which is really a good thing. But if I have already open my last project in my lateral bar I want that Welcome page closes itself when I pick a file from that list.

Is my issue clear?

@chrmarti this would be possible if the welcome editor itself was not "pinned" but showing as preview.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this ties in with #20303. My desired behavior is that the Welcome Page be shown on startup as a "preview" tab (where the title is in italics). Opening a file or project from either the Welcome page's "Start" or "Recent" categories, or from the File Explorer should all close the Welcome page preview.

If there is a concern that new users won't be able to reopen the welcome screen, maybe it should explain how to reopen it from the Help menu.

I consistently close all tabs each time I'm done working in a folder. So each time I reopen the project I have to again, manually close the welcome screen. I like that it pops up in case I want to quickly switch to another project. But if I'm continuing my work in the same project I hate having to close that tab manually.

Will give opening the Welcome page as a "preview" editor a try. /cc @seanmcbreen
