Apple Airpods and Airpods Pro

Setting up Airpods on the Steam Deck

  • Tap on the Steam button. This will open up the sidebar.

  • Navigate to Settings > Bluetooth.

  • After this, open the lid on your Airpods, and don’t pull out the earbuds immediately. Hold the button at the back of the case and wait until the light starts flashing on your Airpods.

  • The flashing light indicates the AirPods are in pairing mode. Tap on the Airpods option in the Steam Deck and wait till the connection is established.

If you still have issues connecting

  • Plugin the mouse and keyboard into the USB ports on your Steam Deck.

  • Hold the power button to bring up the power menu.

  • Choose “Switch to Desktop” to switch over to the Linux desktop.

  • Now go the Bluetooth Settings and set it to enable on login.

PlayStation 5 DualSense™ Wireless Controller

  • Update the wireless controller firmware

  • DS4Windows is an open-source gamepad input mapper and virtual emulator designed to use and connect your PlayStation controller (DualShock 3/4 and DualSense 5) to a Windows 10 & 11 PC. It also comes handy with emulating a Xbox controller and tricks the computer into thinking the DS4, is in fact, an Xbox game pad (virtual emulation occurs).

Note: make sure to use Bottles to run this firmware update and DS4Windows.

The Steam Deck supports expansion via a MicroSD card slot which supports up to 2TB MicroSD cards. Additionally the Steam Deck uses a 2230 m.2 SSD drive, meaning that some users have sourced large (up to 2TB!) drives to upgrade their Decks.

Note: UHS (Ultra High Definition) is the next generation bus interface used to enable high-speed data transfer for SDHC and SDXC cards. There are three classes UHS-I (Ultra High-Speed Phase I), UHS-II (Ultra High-Speed Phase II), and UHS-III (Ultra High-Speed Phase III). For daily usage, a microSD or SD card with UHS-I interface would be sufficient with storage capacity up to 1TB. If this doesn't satisfy your needs, you can go for microSD or SD cards with UHS-II interface with current storage capacity up to 256GB.

Important Note:

  • There’s a 5,313mAh battery inside the Steam Deck.

  • I would recommend getting a 20,000mAh power bank for your Steam Deck as it will charge your console multiple times.
