Sporadic "cURL error 6: name lookup timed out" for all feeds

I have FoF set up to update all feeds each hour.  It seems like there's
about a 25% chance that this will fail, and nothing will be updated.  If I
try to manually update the feeds, I get "cURL error 6: name lookup timed
out" for all feeds.  The machine has internet access, and as far as I can
tell, everything else works fine.  The error has a "validate it" link next
to it, and clicking that doesn't give an error.  I can wget the feeds, and
that works.  After some unknown amount of time has passed (seems like 2 to
4 hours), clicking update feeds will work fine, with no other changes.  I
have the feeling that this is an issue outside of FoF, but I'm not seeing
the error anywhere else.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Either manually or auto update the feeds.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect it to update the feeds, but instead I get an error.


What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.5 on debian stable linux
