If the version is stable enough for production use, could you make a version tag following this format https://getcomposer.org/doc/02-libraries.md#tags

Yeah I would appreciate this as well. I did it myself recently, was a lot easier than expected!

i think time constraints could be the only reason, we can bump up the patch number at any time for any merge or commit that fixes or change something according to semver.

You guys are right, I've been a bit messy in the past with version numbers. I've just branched of nextrelease, that will become the 3.0 as soon as I'm happy about it.
