HTML language detection fails on my website

Hi, first of all thanks for this great project!

My issue: When I visit https://conze.pt (an encyclopedia project I am building), with the Firefox Translation extension the HTML language set for the page is not detected it seems.

So even for "en-US" and "en" (english) pages, the extensions asks what language the page is in (and there is no English to select in that option list).

This seems like a bug to me. I think the HTML-language detection may need some more work. If there is something else I could do/try/test please let me know. Thanks again!
