MacroSilicon MS2109 capture devices

The MacroSilicon MS2109 is an inexpensive HDMI to USB converter chip that appeared on the market in early 2020. It's the chip inside most HDMI capture dongles.

TinyPilot's settings are configured by default for compatibility with the MacroSilicon MS2109-based devices, so they should work out of the box.

MacroSilicon MS2130 capture devices

The MacroSilicon MS2130 upgraded version of the MS2109 HDMI to USB converter chip. The MS2130 appeared on the market around 2023.

TinyPilot's settings are configured by default for compatibility with the MacroSilicon MS2130-based devices, so they should work out of the box.

Notes: Appears to be available in different shapes. Actually USB 3.0 unlike some devices using the MS2109 chip. Supports 4K 30Hz input.

Issues: The MacroSilicon MS2130 supports yuyv color mode. Unfortunately, a bug in uStreamer prevents yuvv mode from working.

Toshiba TC358743 capture devices

The Toshiba TC358743 is a chip that connects to the Pi's CSI bridge. It's more expensive than the MS2109, but it gives the user more fine-grained control over the output. Its capture has a higher color fidelity than the MS2019, and the hardware is more reliable.

TinyPilot has been tested to work with TC358743-based chips, but it requires manual tweaks to the installation options.
